Mill Creek voters to decide the fate of proposed public safety sales and use tax increase

On November 6th Mill Creek voters will decide whether or not to help reduce the budget deficit by approving a 0.1% sales and use tax increase.

As with many American cities these days, Mill Creek has budget problems. Revenues are down and expenses are up which results in a projected deficit for the 2013-2014 budget.

On November 6th Mill Creek voters will decide whether or not to help reduce the budget deficit by approving a 0.1% sales and use tax increase, which can only be used to pay for public safety.

The ballot measure is entitled “Proposition 1, Sales and Use Tax Increase of 0.1% for Police and Fire Protection Purposes.”

Next fall, students in advanced math courses at each of the high schools will be using new textbooks. 

Parents, staff, students and community members are invited to browse the materials being considered and to share feedback about those materials at one of the three Math Adoption Open House events:

Everett High School Library, Monday, Oct. 29, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Jackson High School, Tuesday, Oct. 30, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Penny Creek Elementary Math Portable, Thursday, Nov. 1, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Mill Creek seeking Parks and Recreation Advisory Board Members

The City of Mill Creek is seeking volunteers to serve on the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.

From a City of Mill Creek news release:

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the City of Mill Creek is seeking volunteers to fill two full-term vacancies and two mid-term vacancies on the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.  The full-term appointments will expire on October 31, 2015 and the mid-term appointments will expire on October 31, 2013.

Parks and Recreation Board meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month at 5:00 p.m.  All members must be residents of the City of Mill Creek.

Mill Creek Fall Garage Sale Coming Up

Mill Creek's city-wide garage sale is on October 6, 2012.

Love it or hate it, it's that time of year once again, and I'm talking about the semiannual Mill Creek garage sale. This year the Fall sale is Saturday October 6th. As most people already know it is always held on the first Saturday in May and the first Saturday in October.

You can expect thousands of bargain hunters from all over the State and even visitors from as far away as Oregon and Canada. Everybody loves a bargain!

Mill Creek Planning Commission changes East Gateway Urban Village zoning code

The Mill Creek Planning Commission approved changes to the Mill Creek Municipal Code, which are intended to improve the development potential of the East Gateway Urban Village.

At their September 20th meeting the Mill Creek Planning Commission approved changes to the Mill Creek Municipal Code, which are intended to improve the development potential of the East Gateway Urban Village.

However, the final decision on whether or not to implement the changes will be made by the Mill Creek City Council at the September 25th City Council meeting.

164th Street SE intersection improvement project starts

Mill Creek started a project to improve the intersection of 164th Street SE and Bothell-Everett Highway on Monday, September 10th.

The City of Mill Creek, the Washington State Department of Transportation, and Marshbank Construction Inc. began a project to improve the intersection of 164th Street SE and Bothell-Everett Highway on Monday, September 10th. The project should be complete in three to four weeks.

The project removes the landscaped median on southbound Bothell-Everett Highway, and restripes 164th Street SE to extend the eastbound left turn lane.
