2013 Turkey Burn Workout raises over $1,000 for the Mill Creek Food Bank

Bright and early Thanksgiving morning, November 28, 2013, a hearty group of 33 gathered at Inner Athlete Fitness Studio in Mill Creek to raise money for the Mill Creek Food Bank while raising calorie burn and heart rates.  However, more than fitness motivated them, they also wanted to give back.

The owners of Inner Athlete Fitness Studio, trainers Carissa Norman and Rachel Gaffney, came up with the idea of giving clients an exercise jump-start on what is often the day of the year when most people overeat. 

Called the Turkey Burn Workout, participants got 60 minutes of cardio and strength training in exchange for a $10 donation to the Mill Creek Food Bank.  

The true motivator for participants was raising money for the Mill Creek Food Bank and helping hungry neighbors. Norman and Gaffney pledged to match whatever amount was raised. Donations totaled $570, including a generous $100 contribution. A total of $1,140 was donated to the Mill Creek Food Bank.  

Due to the success of the fundraiser, Norman and Gaffney proclaimed, “We’ll definitely do this again!”
