Groucho Marx said: “Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, diagnosing it incorrectly and applying the wrong remedies.” A more formal definition is “the art or science concerned with guiding or influencing governmental policy.” Let’s assume there may be some truth to both. Wouldn’t you like to play a role in influencing governmental policy? Maybe, if YOU are involved, we can prove Groucho wrong!
In our state, one way to get involved is to attend a caucus. What is a caucus, you ask? A caucus is a meeting of supporters or members of a specific political party or movement. The term, caucus, is a particularly American term and, as Americans, to be involved at the “grassroots” level, one really should attend a caucus.
The Washington State Republican Party is holding its’ 2016 Presidential Caucuses all over the state on February 20th. (Registration is at 9 AM and the meeting starts promptly at 10 AM.) These precinct caucuses will determine who will be elected as delegates and alternates to the Legislative District Caucus and/or the County Convention. There will also be an opportunity to discuss issues pertinent to the Republican platform.
You are eligible to participate in your Snohomish County precinct caucus, if you are a registered voter in that precinct and are willing to verify with your signature that you consider yourself to be a Republican and have not participated and will not participate in the 2016 caucus or convention system of any other party.
To obtain information about the location of your precinct caucus, you will find details at: http://www.snocogop.com/presidential_caucus/ or you can call the Snohomish County Republican Party office in Marysville (360-653-1100).
Come out and join the Party!
