The Everett Herald reports that the Wildcats shutout Interlake High School 6-0, and then defeated Burlington-Edison 4-2, in back to back games at the 2A state baseball tournament at Joe Martin Stadium in Bellingham last Saturday. These two wins propel Archbishop Murphy into a 2A state semifinal game at Yakima County Stadium on Friday, May 25th, at 4 PM.
Game 1 Summary
"Wildcats starter Levi MaVorhis gave up just two hits and struck out nine batters in a complete-game victory as Archbishop Murphy beat the Saints in a 2A first round game to advance to the quarterfinal game against Burlington-Edison," said the Everett Herald. "Trever Morrison, who finished the game 3-for-4, led off the game with a home run and the Wildcats manufactured a run in the sixth before busting down the door with four runs in the seventh. Zander Clouse had the big blow in the seventh, plating two runs with a double and scoring on Cole Grant's single over the shortstop's head."
Game 2 Summary
"After falling behind two runs in the first, Derrick Mahlum settled down and pitched six scoreless innings, allowing the Wildcats to come back and win their second game of the day 4-2 over Burlington-Edison and move on to the semifinals of the 2A state baseball tournament," said the Everett Herald.
The Wildcats will play East Valley High School (Yakima) in a state semifinal game at Yakima County Stadium on Friday, May 25th, at 4 PM. The winner will advance to the championship match at Yakima County Stadium on Saturday, May 26th at 7 PM. The loser goes on the play the loser of the Sumner/Lynden game.
