Nick Patterson of the Everett Herald reports that the Wildcats beat the Red Raiders 1-0 in a 2A state soccer quarterfinal match at Everett Memorial Stadium on Saturday evening.
"The Wildcats used a typically resolute defensive performance — Archbishop Murphy has allowed just two goals all season — along with a wonderful solo effort from Josh Bartley to run their record to 20-0 and advance to next weekend's final four," said Patterson.
"Archbishop Murphy was in control throughout Saturday's game. However, with Bellingham also playing solid defense, scoring chances were at a premium for the Wildcats."
"In the 33rd minute Josh Bartley picked up the ball near midfield and went on a weaving run, beating one defender and skipping past a second before drilling a low shot from the edge of the penalty box into the right corner, giving the Wildcats a 1-0 lead."
The Wildcats will play Cheney High School in a state semifinal game at Sunset Chev Stadium on Friday, May 25th, at 8 PM. The winner will advance to the championship match at Sunset Chev Stadium on Saturday, May 26th at 4 PM. The loser goes on the play the loser of the Tumwater/Fife match.
