From an Everett Public Schools News Release.
Cizek selected as one of ten regional high school students as international representative.
Alexandra Cizek’s senior year will be a memorable one! As an International Seafair Ambassador, Cizek and nine other high school juniors and seniors will travel the region and to Japan, learning just how global and local their own community is.
The Ambassador program’s year-long calendar includes volunteerism, mentor meetings and festival events.
“Alexandra became aware of the ambassador program last September when she filled in for an ambassador by helping a Seafair Japanese exchange student,” said parents Janice and Rob Cizek.
Each year, students from all the region’s high schools are invited to apply for these coveted Ambassador positions. Application requirements include projects, and essays and personal interviews.
Ultimately, only ten are chosen by the Seafair Foundation. Each of the ten students earns a $1,000 college scholarship and will travel to sister city Kobe, Japan.
“I'm really looking forward to experiencing a different culture with the exchange students from our sister city,” said Cizek.
“As I look to the future, I have been appreciating my relationship with my Seafair mentor, Jan Jones. She helps me to explore future career paths and the steps it takes to achieve them from a business professional's perspective.”
From among its members and Board, the Seafair Foundation matches each student Ambassador to an adult mentor whose profession and interests align with that student.
During their Ambassadorship year, Cizek and the others will meet with mentors to define, set and achieve educational and professional goals. “I feel honored and proud to represent Snohomish County as Seafair Ambassador,” she said.
