For the past few weeks Mill Creek Plaza shopping center’s customers have been noticing the chain link fences blocking access to the parking spaces on the northeast side of 164th Street SE and Mill Creek Boulevard.

Thinking that this must be construction supporting a new tenant going into the space vacated by the Hallmark Cards shop that shut down in 2015, News of Mill Creek readers reached out to us asking if we knew what was going on.

Mill Creek City Manager Rebecca Polizzotto quickly replied to our email asking for information. She wrote, “The work currently underway is remediation for contaminated soil left from a dry cleaners business that had been in the center several years ago.”

Polizzotto went on to say that the city issued a grading permit for the soil remediation work, but doesn’t know whether or not a new tenant or tenants “has been secured by the property owner.”

According to JSH Properties, the leasing agent for the Mill Creek Plaza shopping center, the space vacated by Hallmark Cards will be available for a new tenant late in 2016.

We’ll keep our ears to the ground and will keep the community informed.
