From an Everett Fire Department news release.

The Everett Fire Department, Everett Medic One Foundation, and the Nick of Time Foundation are partnering with Clothes for the Cause, a fundraising company that collects clothes in exchange for cash, for an event to raise money to purchase Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) for all Everett School District high schools and middle schools.

These organizations are hosting a clothing and textile drive, which accepts clothing and shoes of any kind, in any condition, until August 7th, 2015.

Following the clothing drive, Clothes for the Cause will pick up the donations and provide Everett Medic One Foundation (who will purchase the AED’s for the schools) with the total of their fundraising effort, measured in dollars per pound.

Funds are being raised to buy a portable backpack Automated External Defibrillator (AED) for each middle school and high school in the Everett School District, eight backpack AED’s in total.

The Everett School District has been proactive in keeping our kids heart safe by having multiple AEDs in all schools, including portable AEDs.

The school district also requires CPR/AED training for all coaches and staff, and by partnering with the Everett Medic One Foundation to train high school students in CPR/AED use for close to 10 years.

Additional portable backpack AEDs at each of these schools will allow quick access by having them on the bench or worn by the athletic trainers.

“We are thrilled to be able to help Everett School District,” said Susan Hovey, Clothes for a Cause event planner.

“Clothes for the Cause and AED’s for Everett Schools make it easy for everyone in our community to contribute by collecting things, free of charge that our friends, family and neighbors already have in their houses.”

Items can be dropped off prior to the final collection event at the following locations.

  • Peoples Storage of Everett; 7909 Broadway, Everett WA 98203
  • Everett FD Station 1; 3619 Rucker Ave, Everett, WA 98201
  • Everett FD Station 5; 6801 Beverly, Everett, WA 98203
  • Everett FD Station6; 9520 Evergreen Way, Everett WA, 98204

The final collection event will be hosted at the Everett Mall on August 7, 2015 from 3:00 pm to 7:00pm.

The drop off event will include the Nick of Time Hero Mobile and their volunteers teaching participants how to do CPR and use an AED, a visit with Everett fire fighters and more.

The first 50 people to donate bags will receive a $10 Everett Mall gift card and for every 10 full bags donated between now and the final date, people will be entered to win a $100 Everett Mall gift card (donated by the Everett Mall).

Those that donate 15 bags prior to the event will be given a certificate good for one car wash at General Car Wash.

In addition to garments, Clothes for the Cause accepts pairs of shoes, hats, gloves, towels, sheets, blankets, quilts, drapery, purses, belts, rugs and stuffed animals.
