The Cedarcrest High School girls basketball team won second place in 2A District 1/2 tournament by beating Archbishop Murphy High School 56-50 at Mount Vernon High School on Monday, February 18, 2013. Archbishop Murphy High school ended up with third place in the tournament.
Both teams advance to regional play on Friday, February 22, 2013.
The Everett Herald reports, “It was a game that Cedarcrest head coach Brad Knowles believed never should have been scheduled, but his Red Wolves won it anyway.”
“Susan Kenney scored 13 points, including a 3-pointer from halfcourt to close out the first half, as Cedarcrest downed Archbishop Murphy 56-50 to capture second place at the 2A District 1/2 girls basketball tournament.”
“The game, which determined the second and third seeds for regionals, was a product of the 2A tournament's unique structure. It was necessary since the Red Wolves and the Wildcats had not played each other in the tourney. However, Knowles is not a fan of the setup, which none of the other classifications use.”
“Wildcat post Beth Carlson had her usual strong game with 16 points and 19 rebounds. Madison Pollock scored 11 and MaireMichael Carroll and Anna Maher each had 10 points, with Maher adding 12 rebounds and five assists.”

Archbishop Murphy High School will play W.F. West High School in a winner to the State Tournament/loser out game at Tumwater High School on Friday, February 22, 2013 at 6:00 PM.
Cedarcrest High School girls plays Port Angeles High School in a winner to the State Tournament/loser out game at Lynden High School on Friday, February 22nd at 6:00 PM.
