Like most local governments, the City of Mill Creek employees are being asked to do more with less resources. They have slashed their budgets, reduced some staff and eliminated services-but still struggle to provide required services within existing resources.
Last November I presented to Council an idea which I believe is even more critical today. My message was for the City to get involved in the State Auditor's LEAN program. This free training program provides comprehensive performance training strategies designed to help the City deliver its services more effectively. The program focuses on reducing variation, waste and delays in the complicated bureaucratic processes. LEAN builds capacity for employees to do more work. Productivity improves and efficiencies are well documented wherever this program has been implemented.
The Council has done nothing in the past six months to implement this free program. What are they waiting for? It's time for action. Our citizens deserve efficient government and LEAN is one tool that has proven to make that happen.
