From a Huxford for State Representative press release.
Janice Huxford, a Lake Stevens Planning Commissioner and small business owner, announced on Tuesday, February 23, 2016, she will run for State Representative as a Republican in the 44th Legislative District.
Huxford said she will run for the seat being vacated by Representative Hans Dunshee D-Snohomish, who has announced his run for Snohomish County Council.
“I’ve never run for office before,” said Huxford. “But in listening to, and working with, other business owners I think more people like me need to step up.”
Huxford said it was a challenge she and her husband faced as small business owners that first convinced her that government regulation often hurts, rather than helps, small businesses and job-creators.
“A few years ago our small business was targeted by bureaucrats and special interests looking to protect their turf,” said Huxford. “We had to lay off valued employees, and I realized I needed to stand up and fight for my employees and for small businesses throughout Snohomish County.”
“People are more upset than ever that politicians don’t listen to our concerns, don’t represent us and definitely don’t work on our behalf,” said Huxford. “This campaign was born out of a desire to see things change.”
Huxford said her community has always been important to her. She and her husband are supporters of The Lake Stevens Chamber of Commerce, Lake Stevens Education Fund, the Food Bank, Purple and Gold Club. She has served on the Board of Aquafest board for 12 years, twice as President.
After a successful 25-year career in wireless technology, Huxford is a consultant for Henredon & Schoener in Bellevue.
Huxford and her husband’s small business was awarded 2013 Business of the Year by local business owners.
“I will bring a much-needed fresh perspective to the job of State Representative,” Huxford said.
Janice Huxford writes a column for the Lake Stevens Ledger under the byline “Let Me Be Candid.” She and her husband, Dave Warrick, oversee the care of their special needs neighbor and are the proud parents of ZuZu Bailey, their eight year-old English Bulldog.
