Combine great gardens with creative artisans, add a chilly June day and it equals our most successful Mill Creek Garden Tour ever!
A steady stream of visitors paraded through the six featured gardens and judging by the smiles and animated chatter, an entertaining time was part of the equation.
Mill Creek Garden Club volunteers greeted tour goers as the dauntless homeowners fielded questions while raking in garden compliments. It’s a definite perk to get rave reviews when you’ve put in the work getting a yard ready for about 500 garden-admiring visitors! Thank you, Garden Owners for loving your gardens and for your willingness to share them. A big shout out: Knox, Doherty, Johnson, Dickman, Overa, and Morrier-Astrofs—gracious gardeners all!
Gardeners like to shop, particularly if it’s something special for their patios or yards. Our Artisan Market crafters set up early in the morning and enjoyed brisk sales in each of the gardens. At the end of the day, these talented artisans gave back a percentage of their sales to Garden Club’s Grant Program. Thank goodness for creative people!
Mill Creek Garden Club extends a heartfelt thank you to all who attended; your enthusiasm for the yards and positive feedback are appreciated! Remarkably some attendees expressed interest in opening their garden next year! How exciting is that!
Local news sources, such as the News of Mill Creek, helped us get out the word by running with every story sent their way. Thanks to their backing, most of you knew there was a garden tour scheduled June 22nd!
A tip of the hat to our sponsors who advertised in our tour brochure. Our posters and top-notch brochures add to the professionalism of the tour, but their printing does come at a price. Because of sponsorship support, we were able to cover our expenses.
Of course, our own Mill Creek Garden Club volunteers deserve a pat on the back. The work started in August 2018, reached fever pitch in late winter and continued beyond tour day. Also deserving of praise are the approximately 30 women who worked on the big day itself. They had fun while earning compliments, glasses of Rose’ and mugs of coffee from garden owners.
The gardens were packed, photos were snapped, notes were taken, but what’s the bottom line: Mill Creek Garden Club is thrilled to award just over $10,000 to our community with our Giving through Gardening Grant Program! Yes indeed, our best garden tour ever. Great team work, great gardens and a great garden-loving public made it all possible.
