Utah beat Mill Creek 1-0 with a walk-off single in the bottom of the 8th inning of the Western Regional Championship Tournament on Friday, July 28, 2017, ending Mill Creek’s run to the Little League Softball World Series.
Washington State’s Championship 12U Little League Softball team from Mill Creek faced off against Utah’s Cedar City team for the Western Regional Championship Tournament on Friday evening, July 28, 2017, in San Bernardino, California.
The 12-year-olds on both teams were evenly matched, displaying great pitching on both sides, resulting in zero runs through eight and a half innings.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Utah’s Sidney Webster drove in the winning run with a single to right field.
Winning pitcher Payton Lister struck out 12 batters, only giving up three hits in eight innings.
Mill Creek’s Simone Williams struck out 11 batters, giving up five hits in five and two thirds innings.
Mill Creek’s defense was flawless with zero errors, while Utah committed four errors on the field.
Mill Creek was undefeated in their first four Western Regional Championship games, outscoring their opponents 38 to 4. They beat Alaska 11 to 1 and Northern California 6 to 0 in reaching the Western Regional Championship game against Utah.
Utah had an equally impressive record to reach the championship tournament finals with four wins.
