From an Snohomish County news release.

On Friday, August 9, 2019, Snohomish County’s Historic Preservation Commission announced that the Shannahan Cabin at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds would be the first resource listed on the Snohomish County Register of Historic Places.

Snohomish County retains much of its historic character and landscape as seen in its historic barns, homes, civil buildings and other structures. The Snohomish County Register of Historic Places was established by county ordinance in 2002 to identify, evaluate and protect archeological and historic resources within Snohomish County in order to preserve and safeguard them for future generations.

The Shannahan Cabin is a log cabin built by an early Snohomish County settler, Robert Shannahan.  The cabin is representative of Snohomish County’s pioneer heritage and is one of the only remaining intact pioneer cabins in the county that is accessible to the general public.  The property has outstanding potential for teaching, research, tours and public education regarding the lifeways and technology of early settlers in Snohomish County.  It has become a beloved part of the Evergreen State Fairgrounds, along with the Western Heritage Museum.

The Shannahan Cabin is the first resource to be listed on the Snohomish County Register of Historic Places.  It is a fitting designation for the little building that contains so much history and continues to delight and educate the general public and visitors to the Evergreen State Fair each year.

The Snohomish County Historic Preservation Commission hopes to add other buildings, structures and resources to the Register of Historic Places to assist in recognizing and preserving the county’s unique history.
