Detectives with the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team are investigating a police pursuit ending in a fatality in Mill Creek on Saturday evening, July 15, 2017.
A Mill Creek police officer had initiated a pursuit of a vehicle that he had caught on radar speeding in the opposite direction on Mill Creek Boulevard at 11:00 pm.
The officer turned on his lights, turned around began to pursue the suspect vehicle. The officer lost sight of the vehicle when it rounded the corner near the 1800 block of Village Green Dr. The officer struck something in the roadway, stopped, and observed that the vehicle he had been pursuing had left the roadway and crashed.
The officer then found a person believed to be the male driver of the suspect vehicle lying in the roadway, presumably ejected from the vehicle.
Responding officers attempted to provide aid to the driver, but he died at the scene. The officer believes that he may have struck the person lying in the roadway with his vehicle.
It is believed that there were no eyewitnesses to the collision.
Identity of the driver is pending from the Snohomish County Medical Examiner, as well as cause and manner of death.
Village Green Dr. is closed between Trillium Boulevard SE and 20th Drive SE for the investigation until further notice.
The officer is in his 40’s and has been with the Mill Creek Police Department a little over a year and in law enforcement for over 10 years.
The investigation is being conducted by the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team, a team of detectives from various Snohomish County law enforcement agencies who respond to and investigate police use of force incidents.
