By Marge Rhodes, Friends of the Mill Creek Library
DID YOU KNOW……since 1985, Friends of the Mill Creek Library (once known as Mill Creek Library Foundation) has been working relentlessly to raise money in support of the Mill Creek Library?
Funds raised by the Friends promote library activities, such as summer reading programs and prizes, children’s programs, teen and adult programs, multi-cultural programs and events, and equipment not covered by the library budget.
In addition to helping the library itself, the Friends offer professional development grants to local schools to provide literacy education and services for local teachers and librarians. In 2019, they were able to provide two such grants: one for adding new books to a local a local school library and another to a special education teacher for attendance at a seminar providing continuing education in her specialty area.
In 2019, the annual book sale raised $2,300 for library services. In addition, sales of donated books in the Library’s foyer provided over $10,000.
Every month, volunteers of the Friends meet for a work party to sort used book donations. Seven days a week, other volunteers sort and shelve books at the Library.
Next time you visit the Library, please think about what it takes to provide the variety of programs offered, many of which are supported or funded by the Friends.
Donations are gladly accepted and much appreciated, either in the payment box near the books for sale in the lobby or mailed to: “Friends of the Mill Creek Library” at 15429 Bothell Everett Hwy, Mill Creek, WA 98012-1212.
Membership in the Friends can easily be achieved – applications are available at the Library. Membership dues are only $10 a year or a $100 one-time fee for a lifetime membership. New members are appreciated and welcomed!
