Transformer fire on Village Green Drive knocks out power

Friday afternoon update

According to Autumn Waite, Snohomish County Fire District 7 Public Information Officer, there were two more transformer fires causing power outages along Mill Creek Boulevard on Friday morning. The first was at 9:37 am at 151st and Mill Creek Boulevard, and the second was at 11:09 am at the 14600 block of Mill Creek Boulevard.

Waite said, "In both cases there was light smoke and we remained on scene until PUD arrived."

Power was out for an hour or two in some Mill Creek neighborhoods.

An electrical transformer malfunction and fire knocked out electrical power for many Mill Creek residents during a heavy rain storm on Thursday evening, August 29, 2013. A Laurel homeowner reported a very loud explosion at about 6:45 pm, the same time the power went out.

According to Autumn Waite, Snohomish County Fire District 7 Public Information Officer, “Ladder 72 was dispatched to a possible transformer fire at Village Green Drive and Trillium Blvd. SE just before 6:45 p.m. The crew found a ground level transformer box smoking. They isolated the area and helped with traffic control until PUD arrived and repaired the unit.”

Traffic at Bothell Everett Highway and Mill Creek Boulevard was also disrupted. Fire crews and Mill Creek Police were on hand to direct traffic.

A Snohomish County PUD unit quickly arrived at the scene and restored power at about 8:15 pm.
