By Lila Johnson, Mill Creek Garden Club PR Chair.
It’s vivid, it’s abstract and it evokes a sunny day in June! Those may have been determining factors in the selection of Mill Creek Garden Club member/artist Lyndal Kennedy’s “Sun’s Up” painting as the face of the third annual Mill Creek Garden Tour scheduled for Saturday, June 24, 2017.
This is the second time Lyndal’s artwork has been selected to grace the cover of the official Tour Guide.
Ms. Kennedy’s painting was unveiled by Garden Tour Chair, Julie Jacobson, at the April meeting of Mill Creek Garden Club. The club applauded the choice of the eye-catching painting which features a vivid golden-orange spray of flowers blooming against a dappled blue sky.
It will be showcased on the cover of the 2017 Tour Guide and the advertising posters sprouting around the community.
Lyndal earned a Fine Arts degree from WSU and worked as a Technical Illustrator at the Boeing Company back in the day when advertising art was done by hand, not computers. She considers her artistic talent to be God given and has been blessed to utilize her skills in every job or club to which she’s belonged.
Ms. Kennedy commented that one time in Honolulu a fortuneteller told her, “You will become famous for your art late in life.” She guessed that was now!!
As a WSU grad, Lyndal is a bigtime fan of the Cougars, even decorating her Christmas tree with ornaments of the school mascot and ribbon and bows in school colors. We’re guessing Lyndal “Coug’d it” because there is no “Crimson & Gray” in her “Sun’s Up” painting.
The Mill Creek Garden Tour, June 24th, will feature six gardens which visitors tour at their own pace.
The cost is $15 for all ages and gardens will be open from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Tickets go on sale in mid-May at Li’l Sprout Nursery, 17414 Bothell-Everett Hwy, Mill Creek.
Proceeds benefit “Giving through Gardening” projects which this year included a $2,000 donation to Farmer Frog; $2,000 planting project currently in the planning stages at Mill Creek Town Center, planting and maintenance of both the City Hall entry way and Flagpole raised bed at Veterans Monument; and funding for year-round maintenance of the Friendship Garden on Village Green Drive.
Mill Creek Garden Club extends a big “Thank You” to Lyndal Kennedy for graciously donating her original “Sun’s Up” painting to the Mill Creek Garden Tour. Her vibrant art makes us smile, as does she! So that’s “What’s up.”
