Abhyanga is a full body Ayurvedic oil-massage and highly recommended it all year but especially during fall.

Why Ayurveda Loves Oil, by Kate Towell

This morning I was sitting in the Subaru dealer waiting for my oil change thinking of how much I love the fall - especially since it has been so perfect here in Seattle. Cool crisp mornings and sunny warm afternoons and college football season, which I love. What does an oil change have to do with any of this? Well, sitting waiting for the oil change, noticing the shifts in season I was reminded that fall is the season to take up abhyanga. What is abhyanga? Abhyanga is a full body Ayurvedic oil-massage and highly recommended it all year but especially during fall to bring grounding, warmth, comfort and deep moisturizing to the skin and tissues.

Seasonal Thrive, by Kate Towell

Here in Seattle the last month has been beautiful. Even now as I write, I’m sitting on my deck, wearing sunglasses and gazing at the North Cascades. However, when Luna and I were on our morning walk I really began to notice the subtle changes signally the shift in season.  All the kiddos back at the bus stop, the cool crisp morning, leaves beginning to change in color and that certain scent that signals fall is in the air. September is a month of transition and a time for us to shift our diets and lifestyle to reflect the seasonal changes.

Play Local – Plan a Staycation

Many people are finding that the most relaxing vacation are staycations. A staycation is a key piece of jargon these days. As you probably guessed, it’s a hybrid of the words ‘stay’ and ‘vacation.' According to the Urban Dictionary a staycation is “a vacation, which involves staying where you are, or staying close to home, usually within a 100 mile radius.”

When you stage a small-scale local adventure you save money, support your local economy and eliminate the hassle and stress of long-distance travel. From hiking, kayaking or paddle-boarding at nearby parks to indulging in week long wellness experiences, a staycation — like any getaway — can be as active or leisurely as you desire. It just takes a little planning, an open-minded attitude and a sense of adventure.
