It is a day to celebrate Irish-American culture in the United States that was basically invented in America by Irish-Americans.

Mill Creek to get new K-9 dog thanks to local businessman

Ken Armstrong, Mill Creek City Manager, announced that Mill Creek’s new K-9 program suffered a setback when the City’s K-9 team was pulled out of training.

According to Ken Armstrong there is a happy beginning to Mongo’s next chapter, “Mongo did find a new home (on a farm in Oregon) and by all accounts is one happy camper!”

Officer Ian Durkee said that he and Axel are getting to know one another and will begin a new training course soon, “I am really impressed with Axel so far and am eager to get into training with him. We are working on getting into a K-9 academy being hosted by Redmond PD, but there is no set start date for that yet.”

During November 2012, the popular Ivar's Everett Seafood Bar, located at: 1520 41st Street, near Everett Memorial Stadium, temporarily closed its doors for its first major makeover since opening in 1986.

During this time several pieces of historical artwork were taken down, including a photo of Senator Henry M. “Scoop” Jackson holding Ivar Haglund’s “clam stamps.” After several community members expressed concern over the absent photo, Ivar’s is now ready to re-hang the restored image of the hometown hero and once-presidential hopeful during a “reveal” on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at 10:15 AM.

Local woman creates art magazine for kids

Bothell resident, Eva Soukalova created a magazine for kids called arTree. She feels strongly that there is a need for kids to be exposed to more art.

Bothell resident, Eva Soukalova, is an art director with a background in child education and psychology. She feels strongly that there is a need for kids to be exposed to more art. This was her inspiration to create a magazine for kids called arTree.

Soukalova said, “The public school programs are being cut, art classes are expensive and parents do not have enough time to look for high-quality art projects online. I love art and ever since my kids were born, I was trying to teach them how to appreciate it and, of course, how to create it. I created hundreds of projects and lesson plans and decided that a magazine is the best way to share it with everybody. After all, which kid does not like to get their own mail?”

Boston’s Restaurant & Sports Bar in Mill Creek (Boston’s) is hosting its annual Boston’s Cares fundraising campaign from February 4-17, 2013 to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Boston’s Restaurant & Sports Bar in Mill Creek (Boston’s) is hosting its annual Boston’s Cares fundraising campaign from February 4-17, 2013 to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

During this time, Boston’s locations across the United States will collect proceeds from one specialty menu item, heart-shaped pizzas and paper hearts to support groundbreaking research and treatment of children with cancer and other deadly diseases.

Boston’s will offer a special dessert menu option, Red Velvet Cheesecake, along with paper hearts available for purchase throughout the duration of the campaign. $1 from the sale of every Red Velvet Cheesecake along with 100 percent of the paper heart proceeds will go directly to Boston’s Pizza Foundation, benefitting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The Wingert Insurance Agency in Mill Creek collected more than 400 donations during a South Snohomish County Toys For Tots drive conducted from November 28th to December 12th.

Grand opening for Mill Creek Qdoba on Monday, November 26th

The wait is almost over. Under construction for almost a year, the new Mill Creek Qdoba Mexican Grill will have their grand opening on Monday, November 26th at 10:30 AM.

To celebrate the grand opening, the first 100 guests will receive a free entree. The grand opening celebration will continue through the week with the following guest benefits:

  • Monday, November 26th – Friday, November 30th – All guests will receive a Qdoba Rewards Card with any purchase, loaded with a free entree to be used on a future visit.

My Garden Nursery wins 2012 Best of Western Washington awards

Mill Creek's My Garden Nursery wins 2012 Best of Western Washington awards.

A very well deserved congratulations to Jenny Gunderson and Bill Reynolds, owners of My Garden Nursery in Mill Creek, for winning first place in the 2012 Best of Western Washington Contest for the "Home & Garden" category for the third year in a row. They came in first out of 127 entries!

My Garden also won first place in the "Post Office" category for the first time and came in number one out of 20 entries.
