A Stage 1 burn ban continues for Pierce and Snohomish counties, until further notice. The ban in King County is lifted, effective at 1 PM on January 16, 2013.

"We're lifting the ban in King County because air pollution levels there have improved," said Dr. Phil Swartzendruber, agency forecaster. "Based on historic patterns, it’s unlikely they’ll reach trigger levels in the next few days."

Stage 2 burn ban now in effect for Snohomish County

The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency issued a Stage 2 burn ban in King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties on Sunday, January 11, 2013, to protect residents from worsening air quality.

The bans will remain in effect until further notice.

Overnight, many areas around the Puget Sound reached air pollution levels of “UNHEALTHY FOR SENSITIVE GROUPS”, especially in areas where wood burning is common.  Agency forecasters expect the current cold, dry, and stagnant weather conditions to extend well into the week.  The Clean Air Agency will continue to closely monitor the air quality and weather situation.

Snohomish County Fire District 1 is seeking nominees to fill a vacancy on its Board of Fire Commissioners.

Snohomish County Fire District 1 is seeking nominees to fill a vacancy on its Board of Fire Commissioners.

The application deadline is January 18, 2013.

Commissioner Millie Judge left the Board at the end of last year to take office in January as Snohomish County Superior Court Judge. The Board of Commissioners will select and appoint someone to fill the vacancy. The appointee will have to stand election in the fall of 2013 to retain the seat and serve the two years remaining in Judge's six-year term.

Firefighters and staff at Snohomish County Fire District 7 helped support fifteen local families this holiday season. Each of Fire District 7’s fire stations adopted two to three families in need; buying them holiday gifts they wouldn’t otherwise be able to give their children.

Mill Creek withdraws from Regional Fire Authority

The Mill Creek City Council voted 7-0 to withdraw from the South Snohomish County Regional Fire Authority planning committee at the December 11, 2012 City Council meeting.

The Mill Creek City Council voted 7-0 to withdraw from the South Snohomish County Regional Fire Authority Planning Committee at the December 11, 2012 City Council meeting.

The City Council made this decision because as a member of the proposed Regional Fire Authority, Mill Creek would end up paying approximately $500,000 more per year for the same amount of service the City is now receiving from Fire District 7 according to the South Snohomish County Regional Fire Authority Planning Committee’s most recent financial analysis.

Fire 1 Foundation helps families in need this holiday season

Fire 1 Foundation donates $10,000 to Volunteers of America food bank programs.

County-wide food bank programs will benefit from a $10,000 donation from the Fire 1 Foundation, a nonprofit community service organization founded by the employees of Snohomish County Fire District 1.

“Supporting food bank programs is a tradition for Fire District 1 that started more than 20 years ago when a group of firefighters passed the hat to collect money to sponsor a family for the holidays. It grew from there,” said Jim Grieco, president of the Fire 1 Foundation and a captain at Fire Station 10 north of Lynnwood.

Washington State Patrol Detectives Seek Witnesses to Smokey Point motorcycle accident

The Washington State Patrol Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) is investigating the one-motorcycle serious injury collision involving a Snohomish County Sheriff’s deputy on the morning of Wedsnesday, November 21, 2012.

The crash occurred at about during the morning rush hour at 8:15 a.m. as the deputy was entering the southbound lanes of I-5 from Smokey Point. He suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Harbor Medical Center in Seattle.

Detectives are seeking additional witnesses to the collision and any event leading up to it.
