Mill Creek Deputy Police Chief Scott Eastman sent out the following update to his earlier press release:
"On June 6, 2019, at approximately 11:45 pm, a 24-year-old Mill Creek man called 911 to report that he shot a person who displayed a firearm during an altercation that started as a traffic incident.
The shooting occurred in the parking lot of the Safeway store located at 16304 Bothell Everett Highway.
The shooter is an armed security guard for a private security company and is not a Safeway employee.
According to the shooter, he was confronted in the Safeway parking lot by the 60-year-old victim who was upset about the 24-year-old’s driving.
The shooter went inside the store, but the shooting victim followed.
When the shooter walked back to his vehicle, he was confronted a second time by the shooting victim. The confrontation turned physical and, according to the shooter, the shooting victim pulled out a handgun.
The shooter told detectives that he fired in self-defense.
Detectives have obtained video surveillance that is consistent with the shooter’s description of what occurred.
The shooting victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center and is being treated for multiple gunshot wounds.
The security guard’s handgun was recovered at the scene.
A search warrant was obtained for the shooting victim’s vehicle and a search of the vehicle located a .25 caliber handgun inside.
The security guard is a 24-year-old Mill Creek man who is being interviewed by detectives.
The shooting victim is a 60-year-old Bothell man who remains in critical condition at Harborview."

Mill Creek Police responded to a shooting of a 60 year-old Bothell man in the Mill Creek Safeway Store parking lot on Thursday evening, June 6, 2019, at approximately 11:45 pm.
Mill Creek Deputy Chief of Police Scott Eastman said in a press release, “A 24-year-old Mill Creek man working as a private security guard called 911 to report that he shot a person who displayed a firearm during an altercation that started as a traffic incident.”
Eastman reported the shooter, a 24 year-old Mill Creek man, is an armed security guard for a private security company and is not a Safeway employee.
The shooting victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center with multiple gunshot wounds. His medical status is unknown.
The security guard’s handgun was recovered at the scene and detectives are searching for any firearm the shooting victim may have had.
