From Washington State Patrol and Snohomish County Sheriff's Office news releases.
The Snohomish County DUI and Target Zero Task Force will be conducting drugged and alcohol DUI (Driving Under the Influence) emphasis patrols on Saturday, April 20th, 2019, from 4:00 pm through 2:00 am.
Representatives from Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, Lynnwood Police Department, Mountlake Terrace Police Department, Lake Stevens Police Department, Edmonds Police Department, Everett Police Department, and the Washington State Patrol will be conducting high visibility patrols throughout the county.
This weekend’s patrols coincide with “420” day. With its roots in 70’s counterculture, April 20th, or “420” has become a date and phrase connected to the international celebration and consumption of cannabis.
The last time April 20th fell on Saturday, increases in collisions nationwide resembled the levels seen after a Super Bowl.
The Washington State Patrol is also conducting DUI emphasis patrols this weekend. In preparation for the possible increase in impaired driving, Drug Recognition Experts from multiple agencies across the state will be working from 3:00 pm on Saturday to 3:00 am on Sunday.
Washington State Patrol Chief John Batiste said, "We hope everyone makes a plan to have a sober driver, taxi, or ride-share to get home safely this Saturday. We all deserve safe roadways every day of the year."
Target Zero is the Washington State Traffic Safety Commission’s plan for zero traffic related deaths and serious injuries by 2030. More information can be found at www.snocotargetzero.org or www.targetzero.com.
