From a May 22, 2019, Everett Public Schools news release.

After completing an extensive national search, Everett Public Schools Board of Directors announced three finalists in their search for a new superintendent.

Presented in alphabetical order, the finalists are:

Dr. Gabriella Duran-Blakey. She is currently the Associate Superintendent of Leadership and Learning of Learning Zone 1 in Albuquerque Public Schools, New Mexico. She works to transform schools into learning communities focused on the belief that all students can learn and encourages staff to embrace new ideas.

Dr. Ian Saltzman, is currently South Region Superintendent in Palm Beach County School District in Florida. He has a passion for all students reaching their potential and fulfilling their dreams and has a proven track record in improving school outcomes.

Stephen Thompson, is currently Superintendent of Willoughby-Eastlake School District in Ohio. He has a broad experience in education and leadership.

The board narrowed the field to three on Tuesday, May 21st, after interviewing a slate of seven candidates, who came from a pool of 35 applicants through the search firm Ray and Associates.

The board of directors would like to thank the hundreds of students, staff, parents and community members who participated in the online surveys and focus groups. This input helped create the superintendent profile that guided and continues to guide the board in this important selection.

The finalists will participate in a series of final interviews and meet and greet opportunities on Wednesday, May 29th.

The community is invited to meet all three candidates on a rotating basis from 5:45 to 8:45 pm at the Community Resource Center, located at 3900 Broadway in Everett.

The board expects to make a selection on May 30th.
