The late Ethan Zakes and his family lived in Mill Creek for several years and were active members of the community.
Skateboarding was Ethan's true passion. He would practice every chance he got, watch videos, read magazines and talk for hours with others about skating. Skater clothes and shoes were a staple of his wardrobe that became more eclectic as the years went by.
Ethan was a true individual. He determined that a Rolls Royce should be his first car. An avid builder, he was always dreaming up new projects, such as "Cat Boats," which were boats for cats that wanted to enjoy the water without the inconvenience of getting wet and a car for a hamster named Bling Bling.
Ethan passed away in May 2011 at the age of 10 due to rare brain disorder, ALD (Adrenoleukodystrophy).
The first annual "EZ Rocks Skate for a Cure" will be held on Sept 21, 2013 at Bellevue Skate Park. This is a competitive skateboarding event established to raise awareness about ALD and raise funds for newborn screening programs for the early detection of rare childhood disease.
The event is open to all skaters ages and skate levels.
