Forest View Elementary School teacher Kaitlin Kalkwarf created a Donors Choose crowd sourcing project on February 14, 2018, to solicit funds for Special Education classroom supplies.
Kalkwarf wrote in her request, “Unlike GenEd classrooms each September, SpEd classes do not receive parent donations of supplies.”
“While I am allotted a very small amount of funding for my class each year, it is never enough to fully stock the class my students deserve, especially when so many student supplies are consumable and need to continually be replaced.”
Kalkwarf’s Forest View Elementary students are scattered in Kindergarten through 5th grade classes. She works with them in small groups arranged by grade and/or skill levels.
The students’ disabilities make it difficult for them to do well in general education classes and need the special instruction in reading, written expression, mathematics, and behavior.
Kalkwarf said her Donors Choose project will fund the purchase of markers, dry erase lapboards, classroom organizers, spiral notebooks, colored pencils, felt tip pens, and other supplies.
She said, “The markers, dry erase lapboards, notebooks, & book organizers are especially important!”
