By Greg Elwin, Kiwanis Club of Mill Creek Media Relations Coordinator.
The mission of the Kiwanis Club of Mill Creek is to empower our members to improve our community by making lasting differences in the lives of children.
Built into the very foundation of improving our community are acts of kindness. It is, after all, kindness to each other that creates the bond of community, and community helps us all lead safe, happy and fulfilling lives!
At our community events, our group created a “Kindness Wall,” where individual acts of kindness are written on cards and attendees and participants are challenged to take a card and meet the kindness act written on it.
2020 has challenged all of us on so many levels! One challenge has been the lack of community events as we have worked diligently to self-isolate and reduce the transmission of Covid-19. For the Kiwanis of Mill Creek, this has meant we have not been able to interact with our community the way we would want to. For everyone, this has become a challenge to us all to find ways to keep our sense of community strong while at the same time ensuring the health and well-being of those we love and care for.
That said, we are a strong and resolute community – committed to standing together in good times and bad. Your Kiwanis club is nothing more than a reflection of the children and families we serve, and we stand together with our community!
We want to share our Kindness Wall with all of you – virtually – until the day comes that we can all come together stronger than before!
Each week, we will share one of our acts of kindness cards and ask all of you to virtually take it down and pay it forward. And we would love to hear about how you were able to take a simple act and make a difference in someone’s life! Please share this in the reader comments section here and on your social media pages. Spread the love and spread the kindness!
This week’s act of kindness is simple yet so timely: “If someone inspires you, tell them!”
During these challenging and unprecedent times, there are many in our community who inspire us – inspire us to be kinder, more generous, stronger, and more creative. Tell them this! Spread the love!
