Members and guests of the Mill Creek Women's Club were treated on Wednesday, December 19th, to a glorious program of holiday music from the Jackson High School Jazz Ensemble under the expert direction of Lesley Moffatt, a jazz pianist and trombone player herself.
The Jazz Ensemble is comprised of 9th - 12th grade students who passed a rigorous audition process for selection into this talented group. All of the members are currently enrolled in either a wind or percussion ensemble.
There are 60 dedicated students in three jazz bands at Jackson High School. They practice every morning from 6.30am – 7.30am before school starts. Many of these students are also involved in sports, regular volunteer work and honors classes.
Moffatt told the audience “Our future is in great hands with kids like these.”
The band played many favorite tunes such as: “Rockin Around The Christmas Tree,” “Frosty The Snowman” and “White Christmas.” The performance also included a special arrangement of “I'll be Home for Christmas,” a beautiful version of “Silent Night” and a rousing rendition of “Hark The Herald Angels Sing.”
Moffatt explained that because of the high level of creativity from the band members each tune was played a little differently every time they perform.
Everett School District Superintendent Dr. Gary Cohn was among the guests who enjoyed the entertainment and a delicious three course lunch at the Mill Creek Country Club.
For ladies who wanted a photo of themselves with Santa, the man in red was there too!
