Henry M. Jackson High School Science Research and Engineering Club member Shruti Parikh was recognized with an Honorable Mention for her research in Testing the Effectiveness of Surfactant and Designing a Coal Train Cover Using an Electrostatically Charged Air Filter at the 2014 International Genius Olympiad Science Fair in Oswego, New York on June 18, 2014.

“The Olympiad is a competition that is, quite frankly, a considerable honor just to be invited to,” reported club advisor Andy Sevald.

“Of the 842 projects submitted to this year’s Genius Olympiad, only 328 were accepted. High school age researchers from 58 countries competed in this ‘best of the best’ international science fair. With that as background, anyone can see that Shruti’s honorable mention is a significant accomplishment!”

“All told, Jackson Science Research and Engineering Club garnered over 20 individual and team awards during the 2013-14 school year.”

“This is particularly powerful in that these students accomplished this as members of a club, finding the time to complete their research on top of an already challenging personal schedule of classes, student government, sports, and other important, but also competing, activities.”
