By Greg Elwin, Kiwanis Club of Mill Creek Media Relations Coordinator.
The mission of the Kiwanis of Mill Creek is to empower our members to improve our community by making lasting differences in the lives of children.
This starts with kindness. Kindness to each other creates the bond of community, and community helps us all lead safe, happy and fulfilling lives!
Our “Kindness Wall” is intended to bring acts of kindness to the community, but since we are all social distancing, we share our Kindness Wall with you – virtually.
This week’s act of kindness!
The feeling of being alone for many has never been as palpable as it has been in 2020. The year started alright but quickly devolved into quarantines and lockdowns. We adjusted with Zoom meetings and socially distanced conversations in our front yards or over fences. Facetime, email and social media became oh-so-important connections to the outside world. Then, the world slowly started to open up, but the pandemic pall was ever-present and then the campaign season lurched into overdrive.
It’s sad to say, but the divisiveness of politics has forced many of us back into virtual quarantine and the uptick and concern over the pandemic has only added to the anxiety.
It is now more important than ever for all of us to know who in our sphere is feeling this anxiety and sense of loneliness and reach out to those people. A kind word from a friendly voice. An encouraging conversation with a loved one during uncertain times. Support for those who need it most.
Don’t let the isolation of a pandemic and the uncertainty of a difficult political season drag down our loved ones and those in our community. Take the time and make the call!
Take a look around, consider this week’s kindness act, and "Reach out to someone who is lonely!"
It’s been said that “winter’s coming” and it’s certainly true. But every year, spring follows winter and the skies brighten up while the air gets warmer.
During winter, we stock up, insulate and protect ourselves from the elements. As important as stocking up supplies is stocking up happiness in our souls.
Please do your part to help others stock up on happiness and hope and reach out!
We would love to hear about how you were able to take this simple act and make a difference! Please share in the reader comments section here and on your social media pages. You can find us on Facebook.
