At 11:017 am on Thursday, September 24, 2020, multiple fire agencies were dispatched to a report of a commercial structure fire at the 8300 block of Maltby Road.
Heavy black smoke and flames were coming from the hopper located on the exterior of the building near the roof.
When firefighters arrived on scene found very active fire coming from the hopper and spreading to the building. The fire was burning the rubber that coated the roof.
Crews were able to quickly access the roof with a hose line, while additional crews were stretching hose lines to the hopper. Their aggressive fire attach helped them extinguish the blaze and kept the fire from spreading to the interior of the building, saving multiple businesses equipment and property.
Firefighters from Fire District 7, South County Fire, and Bothell Fire helped battle the blaze. Snohomish County Fire District 22 (Getchell Fire) assisted fire operations and situational awareness with drone images.
There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.
The Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating what caused the fire to start.
Before the fire was extinguished it burned part of the roof's rubber coating. Drone photo courtesy of Getchell Fire (Fire District 22).
