Music and drama and art, oh my!
By Mary Waggoner, Everett School District Director of Communications.
On Tuesday, March 4, 2014, from 6 to 8 pm, North Middle School will host their first annual Evening of the Arts, an event featuring the literary, fine and performing arts programs at the school. This free community event will include live musical and dramatic performances, a gallery display of traditional and technology inspired visual arts, roving poets, and community resource tables.
Community members, families, students, teachers and special guests begin by viewing the student-created artwork on display throughout the cafeteria. The art show will feature school winners from the National Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards and the PTA Reflections Contest as well as new entries highlighting digital and traditional art forms. Guests may also enjoy refreshments served by students and vote for their favorite artwork.
At 6:30 p.m. guests will be invited to be seated for formal performances by the North Middle School jazz band and jazz choir. These before-school clubs are made up of dedicated musicians and singers that have a passion for jazz. Next, the program will include a performance of “Robin Hood” by the after-school drama club.
Following these performances, North Middle School alumni jazz group members will be entertaining the crowd while people continue to look at the art, vote for the People’s Choice award, catch a roving poet and find out what arts opportunities are available in our community.
