"A Spring Green Garden Club Meeting," by Lila Johnson

Our lucky lady was longtime member Judy Scott. She won a wonderful Angel Wings (Senecio) plant from McAuliffe’s Valley Nursery, Snohomish, and a $50 gift card to our Shawn O’Donnell’s Grill & Pub in Everett.

The “luck of the Irish” carried the day at our March 9th zoom meeting: There were great backdrops of shamrock and grass, members dressed in many shades of green and our guest speaker shared great photos and firsthand knowledge on his favorite New Plants (mostly green) for 2021.

The Club was thrilled to welcome Trevor Cameron, Certified Professional Horticulturist and General Manager of the wonderful Sunnyside Nursery, Marysville. Trevor, a lover of plants, gave us an introduction to just some of the new ones available for 2021.

For Trevor “new” could also be an old standby, but it might now bloom longer or be more disease resistant. He shared his favorites from perennials, to shrubs, to edibles and even annuals. It was a program sure to lure a gardener to the aisles of her favorite nursery before all the plants fly off the shelves.

Trevor graciously donated his speaking fee to the Evergreen Arboretum & Garden, Everett, where he is a board member.

Following Trevor’s presentation, the group talked about doing another food drive for our Mill Creek Community Food Bank. All in attendance loved the idea and a date was set—March 31st.  Members who wish to participate can drop off donations in Nancy Hedges’ driveway.  Hopefully, we will fill Kathy Thomas’ truck again!

Our meeting raffle displayed a “bit of the green” too!  First VP Kathy Thomas ceremoniously drew the winning name out of a jaunty green leprechaun’s hat!

It was announced that Marianne Binetti will be our April guest speaker; she brings a ton of garden knowledge and a great sense of humor to her programs.  More about her in April!
