A woman was seriously injured in an apartment fire in the Martha Lake area west of Mill Creek on Thursday night, May 2, 2019.

A neighbor called 911 at 7:06 pm to report a fire in an apartment at the Millwood Estates in the 16600 block of Sixth Avenue W in unincorporated Lynnwood.

Smoke was coming from a second-floor apartment in a three-story building when crews from South County Fire arrived. The injured woman exited the apartment prior to their arrival. She was transported by medic unit to Harborview Medical Center.

The injured woman was the only one home in the apartment when the fire broke out. There were no other injuries.

South County Fire and Snohomish County Fire District 7 crews kept the fire contained to the one apartment and had the fire under control in about 10 minutes. The woman closed the door as she exited the apartment, which helped prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring apartments.

Fire damage left the second-floor apartment uninhabitable and displaced the injured woman and her son, who was away at the time of the fire.

Three residents were also displaced from the first-floor apartment below the fire unit due to water damage. The Red Cross was contacted to provide assistance.

The Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office is conducting the fire investigation and does not expect to have information on a cause before Friday
