At 12:51 pm on Tuesday, October 1, 2019, firefighters were dispatched to a commercial fire in the scrap metal pile at the Schnitzer Steel facility on the 23700 block of 63rd Avenue SE.

When crews arrived they found a 25’ x 25’ scrap metal pile on fire with Schnitzer operators putting water on the fire and pulling the pile apart with heavy machinery.

Operators had loaded a truck with the scrap metal and noticed the fire when placing a tarp over the load. They were able to quickly dump the scrap metal onto the pavement at the facility and called 911.

With the help of the heavy machinery; crews from Fire District 7, Bothell Fire, and South County Fire were able to quickly extinguish the fire.

The cause of the fire is unknown. No injuries reported.
